That’s what Jesus is called in Luke 2:26. A godly man named Simeon used the specific Term, “THE LORD’S CHRIST.”
Luke 2:22-32 tells the Story. “And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord. (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord.) To offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen THE LORD’S CHRIST. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen THY SALVATION, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A LIGHT to lighten the Gentiles, and THE GLORY of thy people Israel.” Read all this Scripture, don’t “skip” a single verse!
This happened when Baby Jesus was forty-one days old, if I’ve calculated correctly. Almost six weeks of age. Notice a little later (same conversation) Simeon (speaking to God) calls Jesus “THY SALVATION” too! As well as “A LIGHT” (to the Gentiles) and then “THE GLORY” (of Israel). This is amazing!
But today, we shall focus on Jesus being “the Lord’s Christ!”
He is then “God’s Christ!”
The noun “Lord” is spelled “kurios,” meaning essentially “the Supreme One!” That’s God the Father in this context, undoubtedly.
Jesus is “Christ” to His Father in Heaven?
Yes.
The Name/ Title “Christ” (simply spelled in Greek “christos”) means “anointed,” one who is anointed. It’s from a root verb, “chrio,” which means “to anoint” in this sense, “to rub with oil!” The Oil of the Holy Spirit, for sure! Some scholars believe “chrio” derives from “chraomai,” meaning “to need for one’s use, to accept as a loan, to borrow.” Or maybe “cheir” enters into the evolution of the word, “a helping hand!”
Wow, what effective word pictures!
I’ll never look at “Christos” the same again!
In Hebrew this idea is expressed as the “Messiah” (which is precisely the Hebrew equivalent of “Christ”). Jesus is Messiah!
Look at the chain of thought the Bible presents now:
First, Jesus is God the Father’s Christ.
Second, He is the Messiah (Christ) of Israel.
Third, He wants to be Christ in your life, friend, and mine!
I just discovered Revelation 11:15 too! Where Jesus is again called the Lord’s Christ! “And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of OUR LORD (GOD THE FATHER), AND OF HIS CHRIST; and he (Jesus) shall reign for ever and ever.”
Forth and last, Jesus as “Christ” of the whole world!
John 4:42 again, where the newly born-again citizens of Sychar said to the women who met Jesus at Jacob’s well: “Now we believe, not just because of thy saying: for we have heard Him (Jesus) ourselves, and know that this is indeed THE CHRIST, the SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD.”
Amen.
From the Lord’s Christ to “everyone’s” Christ!
I pray with John from the Isle of Patmos: “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20, the last prayer in the Bible.
