For three more Lessons, counting this one, we shall notice the life of Moses, its numerous similarities with our Lord Jesus’ Days on earth.
Moses being the human writer of the Book of Deuteronomy, our Bible Text for over a month now.
Both Moses and Jesus were Jewish by heritage, Moses totally so by human birth (Amram and Jochebed being his parents). Jesus became human (He was ALWAYS Divine) via the Virgin Birth (Mary of the Tribe of Judah being His earthly mother).
Both were born while their people were under bondage! Moses … the cruel thumb of Pharaoh of Egypt. Jesus … the iron fist of the Caesar of Rome!
Both were “special” babies! “Exceeding fair,” Moses in Acts 7:20. And “a goodly child” in Exodus 2:2. Jesus … Luke 2:52. “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Both were threatened with death in infancy! Moses by Pharaoh’s “kill all the Jews” decree. Jesus by the edict of King Herod, “Kill all the baby boys of Bethlehem!”
Both had dominant feminine influence in their lives! Exodus 2:10 says Moses “became the son” of Pharaoh’s daughter. And Jesus (the Virgin Birth again) was “made of a woman!” Galatians 4:4, Wow! Joseph was NOT Jesus’ Father!
Both spent time in Egypt, as children I mean! Moses essentially being reared there and Jesus having been kept there (temporarily) for safety’s sake, fleeing Herod’s death squads. “Behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.” Matthew 2:13
Both knew as younger boys that God had special purpose in their lives! Moses … “For he supposed his brethren WOULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD HOW THAT GOD BY HIS HAND WOULD DELIVER THEM: but they understood not.” And Jesus, at just age 12 mind you, “Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
Then lastly for today … both had a deep love (passion) for the Jewish people! Of Moses Stephen told us in Acts 7:23-24 … “And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian.” And Jesus’ love for His people is apparent as well. Once He even said to a Gentile woman: “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Matthew 15:24 (Add this occasion too: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!” Matthew 23:37)
It’s clear, isn’t it?
These parallels.
But wait for the next two Lessons!
Amazing!
