Joshua was once young (as in Exodus 33:11) but now has grown old (Joshua 13:1 and 23:1) and tired, or literally worn (out) … (here said to be “stricken in age,” perhaps due to the heavy responsibility of leading Israel as commander of her armed forces). This great (godly) man is now calling the leaders of Israel to a great gathering. Here’s today’s Bible Text …
“And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and stricken in age: and ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done …” Joshua 23:2-3
I am especially interested in the clause … “YE HAVE SEEN ALL THAT THE LORD YOUR GOD HATH DONE.” Wow, what a thought!
God, working in their lives every single day!
The manna.
The cloud leading them every step of the way.
The many victories over their enemies.
Health and strength to fight.
And the list goes on and on!
Joshua: “I am old and stricken in age: and ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done …” As if, Joshua is old … but God isn’t!
Seeing all God has done!
Yes, God invites us to consider His mighty Works!
As in Psalm 9:1, a promise David makes to the Lord: “I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous WORKS.”
Psalm 26:7 … “That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous WORKS.”
Psalm 40:5 … “Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful WORKS which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”
Psalm 66:3 … “Say unto God, How terrible (fearful) art thou in thy WORKS! Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.”
Psalm 71:17 … “O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous WORKS.”
Psalm 73:28 … “But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy WORKS.”
In Psalm 75:1, Asaph writes … “Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous WORKS declare.”
Psalm 77:11 is filled with resolve … “I will remember the WORKS of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.”
Psalm 86:8 … “Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any WORKS like unto thy WORKS.”
Psalm 92:4 … “For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy WORK: I will triumph in the WORKS of thy hands.” Wow!
Psalm 92:5, just one verse later … “O LORD, how great are thy WORKS! and thy thoughts are very deep.” Nearly equating God’s WORKS and God’s THOUGHTS!
Psalm 104, the “Creation” Psalm, is filled with depictions of God and His WORKS! Verse 13 … “He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy WORKS.” Verse 24 … “O LORD, how manifold are thy WORKS! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.”
Psalm 119:27 … “Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous WORKS.” Seems here that God’s Words (precepts) illuminate His Works!
Psalm 139:14 … “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy WORKS; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
Psalm 143:5 … “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy WORKS; I muse on the WORK of thy hands.” Know His WORKS!
Psalm 145:4 … “One generation shall praise thy WORKS to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.” Then verse 5 … “I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous WORKS.” Followed by verse 10 … “All thy WORKS shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.”
Goodness!
And these examples are ONLY from the Book of Psalms … talking about God’s WORKS!
Let us take note … look for God’s Works today in your life! God’s mighty Hand!
Let me close for this Monday … “And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them … ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done …” Joshua 23:2-3
His wondrous WORKS!
Don’t miss a one of them!
