Paul wrote … “For the FRUIT of the Spirit is ….” Galatians 5:23, as if you didn’t already know.
How different that sounds from the “works” of the flesh!
Works require human effort.
Fruit is the result of “abiding!”
As the Holy Spirit indwells us and fills us … He begins to reproduce Himself (His Qualities, His Attributes) within us!
And the result of that glorious Process is this nine-fold “fruit!” (“Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.”)
Today we note that little noun “fruit.”
It is spelled “karpos” in Greek.
It is believed to be derived from a Greek verb, “harpazo,” which means “to catch, to seize,” but get this … “to pluck!”
Now this last meaning has special significance in our Lesson today. That’s what you do with fruit, isn’t it?
Pick it?
Pluck it?
In essence this “fruit” is something so lovely, so fragrant, so potentially delicious … that anyone passing by a Christian (one so filled with the Holy Spirit) would see all his or her “fruit,” and want (because of its pleasantness) “to pluck” some!
Wow!
This “fruit” … as an enticement to come to Jesus!
Living day by day in that “sweet” a fashion!
What a noble goal!
In fact (should be at least) … what a glorious reality!
