It’s a simple Statement, written by the Psalmist Asaph long ago: “But it is good for me TO DRAW NEAR to God.” (Psalm 73:28)
So true, yet so hard-to-communicate to Christians today.
Many Believers in Jesus are simply satisfied that they are already near (enough) to God. After all, they have been saved? Right?
Yet the Bible often has Sentences like this: “Draw NIGH to God, and he will draw NIGH to you.” (James 4:8)
Maybe getting closer to God would help our prayer lives. “And Abraham DREW NEAR, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?” (Genesis 18:23)
Read this verse too … “The LORD is NIGH unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18)
Another Instance … “Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; TURN ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will TURN unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 1:3)
Malachi 3:7 even … “RETURN unto me, and I WILL RETURN unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Getting nearer to God, via His Grace, the Shed Blood of Jesus! “For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we DRAW NIGH unto God.” (Hebrews 7:19)
Yes Calvary is our “means” of drawing nearer!
Here’s an Invitation … “Let us DRAW NEAR with a true heart in full assurance of faith.” (Hebrews 10:22)
The chief sin of Jerusalem, of Israel … “She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she DREW NOT NEAR to her God.” (Zephaniah 3:2)
Another example of getting near to God and him reciprocating! “When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he DREW NEAR to behold it, the voice of the Lord CAME UNTO him.” (Acts 7:31)
Dear friend this morning, are you seeking to live a life near (then yet nearer) to the Lord?
We all should be!
But in closing, WHAT can keep me from drawing near to the Lord?
Isaiah 59:2 answers this vital question. “Your iniquities have SEPARATED between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you.
Oh, to live nearer Him today!
