No, the word itself (“Trinity”) does not occur in the Bible. But the Truth it defines, the Deity it names … permeates the whole Word of God, from Genesis to Revelation!
God is One, no doubt about that. Deuteronomy 6:4 boldly proclaims such … “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.”
Yet when Creation Week unfolds, we read … “And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26, notice the three capitalized plural pronouns!
Who can this be other than Almighty God in His Triune Essence? “Us, Our, Our” … words used before a single soul was created!
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit!
When Jesus taught us to go into all the world and make disciples, win souls, He further instructed us to “baptize” these new believers … “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Is this not Trinitarian Doctrine? (Matthew 28:19-20)
Oh yes, the day Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River … an amazing thing happened! Read with me … “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:16-17 … God the Father speaking from Heaven! God the Son in the water! And God the Holy Spirit descending upon the Saviour! The Trinity … visibly or audibly Present in one moment of time!)
Paul coins a word for our great Heavenly Father … the “Godhead!” (Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20 and Colossians 2:9, sure sounds “triune” to me!)
Then I found this verse … “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” 1 John 5:7, in my King James Bible! Here again is the Trinity! Three in One, the very definition of “Trinity!”
In every area of the Christian life … from salvation to sanctification to glorification … the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit cooperate as One … to bring us to Heaven!
Just a thought, as I said … about the Trinity!
