Let me take you to Isaiah 53 today! It is one of the greatest Chapters in the Bible previewing God’s great Plan of Salvation.
There, tucked away in one little Verse, we find these Words, this unfathomable Fact …
“He hath poured out his soul unto death.”
This is Jesus of Whom the Prophet writes. And not just His physical pain, His being “wounded, bruised, beaten, afflicted.”
His “spiritual” torment as well, His “soul suffering” as one writer has termed it.
The verb “poured out” (spelled “arah” in Hebrew) only once is translated “poured out” in the entire Old Testament! (King James Version)
It is also rendered “uncovered” 3 times, “emptied” 2 times, “made naked” 1 time, giving you a few examples.
Exposure, shame, no telling what else … what an example of Love, God’s Love!
Jesus dying not just physically, but spiritually (the wages of sin) as well! He sacrificed his very Soul so sinners could be saved!
There is Agony on the Cross that far surpasses the physical pain. Of this, I am sure. And though it seems that right now (even with our completed Bibles) a “veil” is drawn over those soul sufferings of Jesus … perhaps one day we will be told all He endured to bring us to Heaven, to live with Him forever!
Again …
“He hath poured out his soul unto death.”
Let’s ponder this Truth today.
Let’s ask the Lord to show us more if its Meaning.
The Prayer of Psalm 119:18 sure fits here … “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.”
