Lately in our Revival Meetings I have been preaching through Psalm 136, one of the Bible’s most unique Poems.
No less than 26 times (I counted) it makes this factual claim: “His Mercy endureth for ever.”
As I was pondering this Truth earlier today, I was confronted by this thought, this series of thoughts. (As I read a devotional Sermon from a godly now-in-Heaven “hero,” I might add.)
This Psalm’s Theme, God’s enduring Mercy, brings peace to any Believer’s heart, no matter the circumstances.
It looks to the past. His Mercy and Grace have, because of Calvary, deal with all the sins of my youth!
It cares for the present. His Mercy is new every morning! Lamentations Chapter 3 teaches us: “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
And God’s Mercy (or perhaps I should be saying “mercies”) even reaches into the future! That’s what “for ever” means, dear readers!
And what is “Mercy,” this little word in Hebrew? Spelled “hesed” … it means a great big God coming down to a little next-to-nothing human like me, and loving me and even dying for me and inviting me to spend eternity with Him!
Wow!
All I can say is “Mercy!”
Now, a little Verse to practice, obey. Psalm 136:1 … “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
I praise His Name!
